I am a full stack software engineer who has worked across scientific data, bioinformatics, lidar, geospatial and toy libraries
I have coded using Python, MATLAB, Fortran (77!), C++, Java, JavaScript, Ruby, Perl and Shell - Linux is my preferred operating system and like to work with open source software. I don't claim to be a deep expert in any of the above but would be most proficient across Python and JavaScript.
While working for a brief time in educational publishing (maths/physics) when content and assessment were rapidly transitioning from traditional print products to the digital domain, I came across many visualisation libraries for maths concepts - in particular the open source JSXGraph (JavaScript library), which spawned an interest in data visualisation including the open source d3js for bespoke data visualisation. Already having some coding know-how with Perl and Fortran, I began learning more and more (about Javascript) and Python for data wrangling and data processing and eventually got into the wonderful world of software development via some freelance work and the above mentioned toy library software.
I have worked across front and backend development, DevOps, database management and containerisation and microservices implementation, performed various types of ETL (scripted and using enterprise tools) and have built data dashboards using full stack /open source software as well as with enterprise tools such as Tableau.
I enjoy getting to the bottom of the most tedious tech problems, including reading every line of a stack trace - in pursuit of the lofty goal of finding the resolution .
